Here at ReachOut we make it our goal to promote not just ourselves but any other organizations that are making a difference in young people’s lives, particularly those who are dealing with mental health issues. So when we found one that stood out we jumped at the chance to promote them.

Free Arts is a non-profit currently based in four states (Minnesota, New York, Arizona, and California) that works to bring the healing powers of artistic expression to abused and at-risk youth. They partner with facilities such as treatment centers, homeless shelters, special programs schools, and rehabilitation centers to work with youth from toddlers to teenagers. Through any and all art - finger painting, music, screen printing, dance - the volunteer teams of Free Arts mentors aim to help those in need in order to become active participants in their healing process - survivors, not victims.

If you want to be an active participant in your own healing process or the healing process of others, feel free to get involved. If you live in one of the aforementioned states, check online to see if you can become a mentor, to donate, or simply share your story of healing. The Free Arts MN chapter has a tumblr that is waiting to hear from you and showcase your progress. It’s also there to show off the amazing talents youth like you have buried underneath the stress.

We know that almost all of you are dealing with or have dealt with your own issues in life, so not only is this a great chance to get involved it’s also an opportunity for you to find constructive, healing outlets. You can unlock your voice through a multitude of mediums, from the supportive words found on our site to the infinite forms of art found on theirs.
